Day two recap of the Pony-13 World Series

Day two of the 17th annual Pony-13 World Series from Modesto, California came to an exciting end. At the end of the day two teams were eliminated. We are one step closer to crowning the World Series Champion.

GAME 1: REDONDO, CA 4, MOUNT PLEASANT, MI 2

Redondo, CA got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning. To start the game off, Keijjiro Hattori doubled to left field. To get on the board, Hattori not only stole third base, but he also stole home. To follow up that run Cameron Henry had a single and then scored on Ethan Peterson’s double to left field. To end the inning, Aidan Yamashita singled to right field scoring Peterson.

Brady Edwards got the start for Mount Pleasant, MI. He threw two innings allowing three runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one. Hunter McGuire was the relief pitcher throwing five innings.

Yamashita was on the mound for Redondo, CA. He lasted three innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero.

Ethen Helinski went 2 for 2 at the plate to lead Mount Pleasant, MI.

Hattori led Redondo, CA with three hits in four at bats.

With the result, Redondo, CA moves to 1-1 in the World Series and will face  ­­­­San Antonio, TX today July 25th at 10:00 a.m. PST/US. Unfortunately, Mount Pleasant, MI was eliminated from the World Series.

GAME 2: HAGERSTOWN, MD 13, BEL PASSI, CA 5

The big player who helped lead Hagerstown, MD to the win over Bel Passi, CA was Ryan Swartz.

Swartz went 4 for 4 with two singles and two doubles.

Even though Hagerstown, MD won, that didn’t stop Bel Passi, CA from fighting. They put four runs on the board in the second inning. Bel Passi, CA capitalized on the four walks. Jacob Towe made base loaded when he hit a single to center field. To bring in the first two runs were bases loaded walks. Followed by a single from Nolan Foehringer to right field scoring two.

Hagerstown, MD took back the lead in the bottom of the third. They capitalized on three walks when R Swartz doubled to center field scoring two runs. Extending the lead to 4-7. Hagerstown, MD added another run before the end of inning when B Norris stole home on a passed ball.

Hunter Benedict was on the mound for Hagerstown, MD. He last one and two third innings, allowing one hit and four runs while striking out one.

For Bel Passi, CA Jordan Capell was the starting pitcher. He lasted four and a third innings, allowing five hits and 11 runs while striking out three.

With the result, Hagerstown, MD moves to 1-1 in the World Series and will face Sierra Madre, CA today July 25th at 1:00 p.m. Unfortunately, Bel Passi, CA was eliminated from the World Series.

GAME 3: SAN JOSE PAL 4, SAN ANTONIO, TX 0

 Julian Cazares was spectacular on the mound for San Jose PAL. He lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out seven.

San Jose PAL put one run on the board in the bottom of the fourth. A single by Alexander Kim to left field put a runner on base. Kim stole second and third base putting him in scoring position. Nicolaus Owsley hit an RBI to left field, giving San Jose PAL their first run.

The sixth inning was when San Jose pulled away with the lead. They capitalized on two walks and an error putting runners in scoring positions. A bases loaded walk gives San Jose PAL their second run. Followed by a fielder’s choice scoring both Liam Wong and Kim. Bringing the score to 4-0.

Rodolfo Costilla IV led San Antonio, TX with one hit in three at bats.

Branden Daniel was on the mound for San Antonino, TX. He surrendered one run on three hits over four innings, striking out three.

With the results, San Jose PAL moves to 2-0 in the World Series. They will play today July 25th at 4:00 p.m. PST/US facing the winner of game 9. San Antonio moves to 1-1 in the World Series. They will play today July 25th at 10:00 a.m. and will face Redondo, CA.

GAME 4: LA QUINTA, CA 11, SIERRA MADRE 2

 La Quinta, CA came in strong. La Quinta had four walks and one hit batter to put the first two runs on the board. Followed by an RBI from Cole Meka. The pitcher balked giving La Quinta a lead of 4-0 in the first inning.

La Quinta added three more runs in second inning. They capitalized on two errors scoring two runs. Guzman stole home to give La Quinta an 8-0 lead.

Guzman was on the mound for La Quinta, CA. He surrendered two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.

David Ouch II was on the mound for Sierra Madre, CA. He allowed three runs on zero hits.

Ezekiel Rodriguez, Ouch II, Dylan Hoang, Andrew Klein, and Bradley Loiacono each collected one hit for Sierra Madre, CA.

With the results, La Quinta moves to 2-0 in the World Series. They will face the winner of game 10 today July 25th at 7:00 p.m. Sierra Madre moves to 1-1 in the World Series. They will face Hagerstown, MD today July 25th at 1:00 p.m.
