2019 Mustang World Series Day Three Recap

Game 9: Chicago, Illinois Defeats Manila, Philippines 13-7
In game nine of the 2019 Mustang World Series, Chicago, Illinois defeated Manila, Philippines 13-7. Camori Robinson collected four RBI’s and was the driving force behind Chicago’s offense. 

Chicago scored two runs in the top of the first to jump out to an early lead. Parker Robinson opened the game’s scoring with an RBI single to center field that scored Donovan Evans. P. Robinson then stole second, third, and home to give Chicago a 2-0 lead. 


Chicago added another run in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead. After Jaidon Hilliard singled and stole second and third, C. Robinson’s double brought him home. 


Chicago plated six more runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 9-0 lead. Michael Watson singled to score Blake Ragsdale. Gaston Lopez then singled to score P. Robinson and Watson to give Chicago a 6-0 lead. Isaac Ochoa also singled to score Lopez Jr. for Chicago’s fourth run of the inning. The fifth and sixth runs of the inning came from C. Robinson’s double that scored Ochoa and Hilliard. 


Manila scored its first three runs in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, Christian Marantal tripled. Marantal’s triple scored Juancho Gatmaitan, Axl Fallorina, and Rafael Blaza. 


Chicago managed to plate one run in the top of the fourth. After P. Robinson singled and stole second, a fielder’s choice let him score. 


Manila continued to chip away, adding three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Santino Malabanan tripled and knocked in Mark Olayvar and Jorrell Ching. A passed ball then allowed Malabanan to score, cutting Manila’s deficit to only four runs.


Chicago plated two more runs in the top of the fifth to expand its lead. Hilliard hit a double to center field that scored Jesiah Dawson for Chicago’s first run of the inning. The second run came on C. Robinson’s double to right field that scored Hilliard. 


Manila managed to add one more run in the bottom of the fifth. Martino Ilagan led off the inning with a walk before stealing second. Olayvar then doubled, which allowed Ilagan to score. 


Chicago scored its final run in the top of the sixth. After P. Robinson singled and stole second, a fielder’s choice allowed him to score Chicago’s thirteenth run of the game. 


Chicago advances to face Placentia, California at 6:00 p.m. CT/US on Sunday, August 4 at the Youngsville Sports Complex. Manila is eliminated after compiling a 1-2 record in the tournament.

Game 10: The Bronx, New York Defeats Castroville, Texas 13-11

In game ten of the 2019 Mustang World Series, the Bronx, New York defeated Castroville, Texas 13-11. Noe Mercedes and Angel Poche each collected two RBI’s to help power the Bronx’s explosive offense.


Castroville’s offense exploded for six runs in the top of the first. A fielding error with the bases loaded let Easton Lange and Jerimiah Jacobs Jr. score to give the Texans a 2-0 lead. Castroville’s third run came on a passed ball that scored Hunter Hurtado. A wild pitch then plated Wyatt Ducs. A passed ball scored Brady Fillinger for the fifth run, followed by Christopher Rash’s single that scored Lawson Schuchart for the final run of the inning.


The Bronx rallied back quickly, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game. With two outs, Mercedes doubled to score Alex Rodriguez for the Bronx’s first run of the game. Poche then singled to score Mercedes and Flenix Ramirez, cutting the Bronx’s deficit to only three runs. A walk with the bases loaded scored Poche for the Bronx’s fourth run. A fielding error then allowed Luis Garcia and Jackmichael Munoz to score, tying the game at six.


The Bronx added two more runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. The first run of the inning came from Garcia’s RBI single that scored Ramirez. A defensive error allowed Poche to score the second run of the inning. 


Castroville scored one run in the top of the third to cut the Bronx’s lead in half. After Fillinger singled and advanced to second and third on consecutive fielding errors, another fielding error on Joseph Alvarado’s ground ball allowed him to score. 


The Bronx scored three runs in the bottom of the third to add a cushion to its lead. Kendry Pegeuro hit an RBI single that scored Luis Nunez. Mercedes then singled to right field, scoring Pegeuro. Branden Rosario scored the Bronx’s final run of the inning on a successful steal of home. 


Castroville scored two runs in the top of the fourth to answer. A fielding error allowed Hurtado to score Castroville’s first run of the inning. Another fielding error let Ducs score, cutting Castroville’s deficit to only two runs. 


The Bronx added another run in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the bottom of the fifth. In the fourth inning, after Pegeuro walked and stole second and third, a passed ball allowed him to score to give the Bronx a three-run lead. In the fifth, Mercedes singled, stole second, and scored because of Ramirez’s double.


The Bronx will advance and play Mexicali, Mexico at 6:00 p.m. CT/US on Sunday, August 4 at the Youngsville Sports Complex. Castroville is eliminated from the tournament after compiling a 1-2 record.

Consolation Game: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Defeats Youngsville, Louisiana 18-3

In the 2019 Mustang World Series (MWS) consolation game, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic defeated Youngsville, Louisiana 18-3. Reynol Cepeda’s four RBI’s were the driving force behind Santo Domingo’s explosive offense. 


Santo Domingo jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Marc Ascencio opened the scoring with an RBI single to centerfield that scored Cesar Pena. Ascencio also scored on Yalier Polonia’s sacrifice fly. Jacob Rodriguez then singled to score Reynol Cepeda. The fourth and final run of the inning came from Cristopher Paniagua stealing home.


Santo Domingo’s offense exploded in the top of the second, tacking on ten more runs. A defensive error that allowed Feliant Perez to score opened the scoring for the inning. Santo Domingo’s next two runs came from Cepeda’s single to center field that scored Jaiden Valdez and Ascencio. A passed ball let Cepeda score Santo Domingo’s fourth run of the inning. Paniagua then singled to bring Polonia home. Dylam Padilla also singled, which let Paniagua score and gave the Dominicans a 10-0 lead. Rodriguez scored the Dominicans seventh run of the inning on passed ball. Valdez then singled to score Padilla. Ascencio also singled, which scored Perez to give Santo Domingo a 13-0 lead. A fielder’s choice let Pena score the tenth and final run of the inning. 


Youngsville scored its only three runs of the game in the bottom of the third to respond. Brody Legnon’s single scored Brendan Shullaw for Youngsville’s first run of the game. A balk allowed Legnon to score, making the score 14-2. Evan McBride was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, which let Kole Harris score Youngsville’s third and final run of the game. 


Santo Domingo plated four more runs in the top of the fourth to expand on its lead. Cepeda opened the inning’s scoring with a single that scored Pena. After a fielder’s choice scored Valdez, Rodriguez’s single scored Ascencio. Padilla then singled to score Paniagua for the last run of the game.


Santo Domingo ends its 2019 MWS run after compiling a 1-2 record. Youngsville ends its tournament run after compiling an 0-3 record.

Game 11: Chicago, Illinois Defeats Placentia, California 4-2

In game eleven of the 2019 Mustang World Series, Chicago, Illinois defeated Placentia, California 4-2 in extra innings. Isaac Ochoa allowed zero earned runs over 4.1 innings pitched, shutting down Placentia’s hitters. 


Placentia scored one run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. With two outs, Tucker Hunnicutt walked. Hunnicutt scored the game’s first run on John Burdge’s double to right field.


Placentia added another run in the bottom of the third to double its lead. Logan Sylvester was hit by a pitch, putting a runner at first with two outs. After stealing second and third, a passed ball allowed Sylvester to score. 


Chicago scored one run in the top of the fourth to cut Placentia’s lead in half. Blake Ragsdale opened the inning with an infield single. After Ragsdale stole second, Parker Robinson doubled, which scored Ragsdale and gave Chicago its first run of the game. 


Chicago added another run in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Jaidon Hilliard walked before stealing second and third. Colin White then singled, bring Hilliard home and tying the game.


Chicago added two more runs in the top of the seventh to win the game. Bryce Gilmore led off with a single to center field before he stole second. Gilmore then stole third and home, giving Chicago a one run lead. Donovan Evans then singled to give Chicago another base runner. Evans scored Chicago’s fourth run thanks to Ragsdale’s RBI triple. 


Chicago and Placentia will play again in an elimination game at 10:00 a.m. CT/US on Monday, August 5 at the Youngsville Sports Complex. The winner will move on to play Mexicali, Mexico in the championship game at 12:30 p.m. CT/US on Monday, August 5.

Game 12: Mexicali, Mexico Defeats the Bronx, New York 15-11

In game twelve of the 2019 Mustang World Series, Mexicali, Mexico defeated the Bronx, New York 15-11. Jose Salcido and Heriberto Vilasenor each collected three RBI’s and were an integral part of Mexicali’s explosive offense. 


Mexicali opened the game’s scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first. A fielding error let Keysen Escamilla score the first run of the game. Another fielding error let Vilasenor score the second run of the inning. 


The Bronx scored three runs  in the top of the second to take the lead. Ricky Pimentel walked with the bases loaded, bringing Angel Poche home. Kendry Pegeuro then singled to center field, which scored Luis Garcia. Jackmichael Munoz scored on a wild pitch for the third run of the inning. 


The Bronx struck again in the top of the third, adding two more runs to take a 5-2 lead. A fielder’s choice scored Poche for the inning’s first run. Pegeuro then hit a single to center field that scored Garcia. 


Mexicali added two runs in the bottom half of the third. Vilasenor brought in Mexicali’s third and fourth runs of the game on a two RBI single to right field that scored Ivan Romero and Escamilla. 


The Bronx added another run in the top of the fourth to double its lead. Flenix Ramirez singled to center field, scoring Noe Mercedes to give the Bronx a two run lead. 


Mexicali’s offense exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. Fernando Rivera doubled and scored Angel Nunez. Rivera also scored thanks to Romero’s single. With the bases loaded, Vilasenor was hit by a pitch, allowing Francisco Borquez to score and giving Mexicali a 7-6 lead. Romero scored on a wild pitch before Salcido hit a bases-clearing double that scored Escamilla and Vilasenor. Salcido scored on a wild pitch, giving Mexicali an 11-6 lead. The eighth and final run of the inning came from Nunez’s single to left field that scored Joset Saldana.


Mexicali added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase its lead. Romero scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch. Escamilla then scored on a fielder’s choice. Vilasenor scored on another wild pitch, giving Mexicali a 15-6 lead.


The Bronx rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth, but these late heroics were not enough to overtake the Mexicans. Mercedes hit a double that scored Branden Rosario for the first run of the inning. Another double by Ramirez scored Mercedes. With two outs, Munoz’s single scored Ramirez, cutting the Bronx’s deficit to six runs. Alex Rodriguez walked with the bases loaded, enabling Munoz to score the fourth run of the inning. Rosario then singled, scoring Branden Santos for the Bronx’s final run of the inning and game. 


Mexicali advances to the championship game at 12:30 p.m. CT/US on Monday, August 5 at the Youngsville Sports Complex. Mexicali will face the winner of Placentia, California vs. Chicago, Illinois. The Bronx is eliminated from the tournament after compiling a 2-2 record.
