Pony & Colt European Zone Championships announce largest field of teams ever
PONY Baseball and Softball and the European Zone are proud to announce the tournament's field of teams for the 2019 SUMA Pony & Colt European Zone Championships. A record 62 teams will compete over four days (April 25-28) across two age divisions in baseball and softball at the Prague Eagles Baseball and Softball Complex in Prague, Czech Republic in order to name four champions.
According to PONY European Zone Director Jan Bagin, the tournament has now become the largest baseball and softball tournament in Europe, which is a testament to PONY's growing presence across the continent.
"Pony and Colt categories are very important for the development of our sports," said Bagin. "We, as organizers, are proud and pleased that our continuing effort helps to increase the overall numbers of young players and also offer them the opportunity to meet with players from the 13 European countries that participate in the tournament."
A couple of firsts are taking place this year. For the first time ever, the tournament has added a Pony 14U girls softball category. Also, Sweden is entering three teams into the field (Colt 16U and Pony 14U baseball and Colt 16U softball). In total, 184 tournament games are anticipated to be played at three locations. The baseball winners will receive automatic qualifying bids to the Colt World Series in Marion, Illinois and the DICK'S Sporting Goods Pony World Series in Washington, Pennsylvania, respectively, this summer. The softball winners will receive automatic qualifying bids to PONY's Softball World Series events, which will be determined.
"All organizers are looking forward to welcoming the teams, and we will do our best to make the visit to Prague a great baseball and softball experience not only for the players and coaches, but also for the parents and fans," said Bagin.
